Geco-Emerald July 14th - August 18th 1999

East of Kalimantan, Indonesia, the weather was not as calm as it usually is in these waters. The problem was also huge logs floating in the sea. But the production was high and compared to the problem area of Brazil with bad weather and shark attacks and those shooting west of Kristiansund in Norway with continuing bad weather, our trip was like a walk in the park! No problem having 8 streamers in the water when the trips are like this!

Here the chase boat along side with wood and logs the crew has collected. The second picture showing a mob boat going along side a log stuck to the tail buoy. Usually the procedure is to go on board the tail buoy, but here it's easier to connect a rope to the log from the mob boat.

The problem with having logs stuck to the tail buoys are that the tension on the streamer increases and the production speed decreases. The direction the tail buoy is heading can suddenly change as well. This might cause a tangle. There were a couple of times the day shift had to order full stop of the Geco-Emeralds engines to release huge logs during the dark hours of the shift. The night shift usually had to go out at sun rice 6 o'clock in the mornings to release the logs.

There are always toolbox meetings on the bridge before we go out in the mob boat or work boat. Usually there is an unofficial toolbox meeting down in the instrument room as well of what is going to happen during the trip. On routine missions the meetings also contain the latest information on what is going on, like where the PGS Ramform Challenger is (this morning it was only 3 NM away, thought of heading over to them to get some breakfast while they were doing some streamer work). The second picture is showing SL pos. eng. and pos. operator bringing one of the tailbuoy batteries onboard the mob boat at 06:20 AM.

The mornings are really nice. The sky never looked the same any morning. This picture is showing the workboat hanging ready with a section, the radio check has been performed as it's done every morning

Towards the end of the trip we had some cable parties on the back deck. One due to fishing gear on streamer # 1 and one due to changing of chains on the four mono wings.
